Wedding Budget Planning - For Real People
Having a wedding costs money, just like throwing a really nice party. Wedding Industry sources tell us that the average being spent on a wedding in the US is about $29,000.00. To some reading this, that amount is a lot of money, to others, not so much.
So what does this mean for couples getting ready, or who are in the midst of planning their wedding? Not much really.
Everyone's wedding is unique. Assuming you are having a reception, your guest count alone can effect 50% of your overall wedding budget. Catering, cake, invitations, guest favors and Thank You note costs will all be tied to your guest count.
So how do you make a wedding budget? First you need to determine just how much money you have available for your wedding (and honeymoon if applicable). Depending on your situation, reach out to any relatives who may be willing to provide funds. Traditionally, a the bride's parents covered, or at least helped, with the wedding costs, but that is not always the case.
Once you have a solid idea of what your total wedding budget is, you can start figuring out how much you have to apply to the cake, the dress etc. There are commonly used percentages for each item you will need for your wedding (Flowers:10% Stationary: 2% etc.). We have a good list below that can be used as a guideline.
