Tips for Writing Your Vows

Just the idea of writing down how you feel about someone and how they make you feel is daunting enough. Here are some tips to help you write your vows.

Record your words-

Sometimes what flows out naturally is the most honest pure and best things to say. If you can set your phone to record video and have it record your audio. Go back and listen to it, you may be surprised how eloquent you are.

Write them down-

Trust us, there are a whole lot of things that are going on leading up to your ceremony.  We all know what you generally want to say but writing down your thoughts can help you speak clearly and elegantly. It is also alright if you want to memorize your vows and not have them in front of you. No pressure. 😉

Take your time-

Go ahead and start writing once you have decided if you are writing your own vows. You don’t have to finish it right away but start your writing process as soon as possible. Do not wait until the last minute.

Practice-

In front of a mirror, in front of your friends or a family member, just practice.  We are not all public speakers, and it can seem daunting to speak your hearts feelings in front of everyone but with a little practice the stress of this act will diminish.

Ask for help-

It is perfectly fine to ask for a little help in writing your vows. Maybe you know someone who writing is their strong suit. Keep in mind these are your words, your vows, your promises.

A few little tips to add-

Express why you love the person you are standing with. Share a short story. Don’t embarrass your partner, but express a side of them that you find endearing or sentimental. Share some of your hopes and dreams for each other in your future.

Remember these words have so much power to them because of their intentions. This is the beginning of your day and your marriage.
