Unity and Blending Ceremonies

A unity or blending ceremony is a great way to physically show the combining of the 2 people and families and there are a few ways to do this.

Candle Ceremony-This will involve 2 separate candles each one representing the couple as individuals. The mothers (traditionally) of both sides light a taper candle that is seated at either side of a larger pillar candle. The candles remain untouched through the ceremony until the bride and the groom have exchanged vows. The couple then will be taking the taper candles to light the larger pillar candle together. Symbolizing that the 2 are now 1.

Sand Ceremony- Pouring 2 different colored sands into a jar or see through container is a classic way of showing how strong of a bond the couple has. These tiny grains of sand will mix and with the 2 different colors they’ll create a design. But good luck to whoever decided to separate the 2 and put back the sand. If you have more members in the families, you are joining you can incorporate as many people as you like by having a different color for each member. This is a great way to incorporate any children in the families.

Wine Blending Ceremony- A lot like the sand you will have a glass of white wine and a glass of red wine for the couple to pour into a glass together. The red and the white wine will create a blush wine. You can also mix a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot to create a Bordeaux!

A Whiskey blending ceremony (is a Gaelic tradition) where a couple blends two separate bottles of whiskey into a barrel or container to symbolize the joining of two lives and the creation of a new one.

There are many ways to show the blending of 2 lives. Which will you choose?
